Perfect place for some peace and quiet & Amazing Scenery.
You know the spot pointed out on google maps as the location of Sitio Escondido? Well, that's not where it is... It is about 1km from there, through gravel and sand dunes; so believe the homepage when it says you can only reach it on a 4x4; and even if u are driving a 4x4 you'll need the owner to meet you in town so you can learn HOW to get there in the first place (it isn't exactly through what you'd call roads...). The location is both a blessing and a curse. My partner and I arrived at night, and when we woke up in the morning and saw that white sand and palm trees are the only things in view... it's so beautiful and unique! Saying that, even though we are both keen walkers the sandy terrain and hot sun means it is not feasible to walk into town. You'll depend on Joerg's lifts and shuttle service for restaurants and entertainment. So I'll take this opportunity to suggest that he makes a price list available on the website and bedrooms; specifying prices of meals that can be provided (aside the included breakfast), shuttle services and activities. That would avoid awkwardness during check-out, and guests can have their wallets prepared since it is a cash only establishment.
Joerg (aka Jorge) and Marciria were amazing hosts; and the staff Maria and Tacio were super helpful and friendly, always making sure we had everything we needed... The isolated location means you'll get to see the most beautiful sky at night and sleep with no sound but the wind (appart the odd donkey braying...) Our experience was more akin to staying at a friend's house; Since we were there during New Year's Joerg invited us to join his friends, neighbours and other guests for dinner; and later took us for a night out. Marciria was a great hostess and really made sure she showed us a good time in Canoa! The bedrooms are beautifully decorated, and breakfast was lovely and freshly prepared with many ingredients homegrown and homemade. Beach is about 10min walk from the house and quite isolated from the busy stretch by the village of Canoa. The village offers good options for food and drinks and Joerg sure gave us some good tips of where to go! We had an amazing time during the 4 nights we stayed there and definitely hope to go back!
